Full SEN (special educational needs) assessment

Includes assessment and report.

SEN assessments encompass different types of assessments undertaken for different reasons. More often than not, they are recommended to establish whether learning difficulties may be present and preventing the child from achieving their potential. A child or young person will take part in a variety of tasks that identify their strengths and areas of educational need so that the right support and provision can be put into place.

A standard SEN assessment helps us understand how your child learns and what support they need at school. It is like a snapshot, focusing on their current abilities and challenges within the classroom. For this, I gather recent information from the family and school, along with my own assessment. The report identifies strengths and areas of need, with long-term goals and provisions to support their development. However, it does not cover historical information, existing EHCPs or detailed analysis of previous reports.

Annual Review assessment

Includes assessment, report and review of the current EHCP.

An Annual Review assessment is more detailed than a standard assessment as it includes a thorough review of the existing EHCP and consideration of the current outcomes and provision. This assessment evaluates your child's progress against their existing goals and determines whether the current support is meeting their needs.

In addition to gathering recent information from the family and school and conducting my own assessment, I review the current EHCP, provisions and any relevant supporting documentation. The report will make recommendations for adjustments to outcomes and provisions where necessary, ensuring that your child's needs continue to be fully met.

Tribunal or appeal assessments

Includes expert report but does not cover additional documentation (such as amendments) or pr-tribunal meetings and tribunal appearances.

Tribunal assessments provide a detailed assessment and analysis with impartial advice aimed at providing the most appropriate support for the child or young person. Expert opinion is provided in a written report.

When a tribunal or appeal is involved, this assessment is more comprehensive than a standard assessment. It reviews past EHCPs, medical and therapy reports and any relevant history. It also evaluates the suitability of any existing outcomes and provisions, providing detailed evidence that reflects the child's needs within a legal context. This extra level of detail ensures that all relevant factors are thoroughly considered and clearly presented.
